The Stories Behind Our Work
Bontosua Community Restoration Team, Indonesia
For 20 years, working alongside local communities, we have been restoring degraded coral reefs in central Indonesia. In 2024, a team from the local Bontosuan community, trained by Mars, initiated their own indepednent restoration project, demonstrating their dedication to securing a future for their reefs.
Save The Beach, Maldives
Over 2024, we partnered with Save The Beach Maldives, a Maldivian NGO, to launch The Maldives Coral Restoration Program, the first nationwide coral restoration initiative across The Maldives. The Program aims to help rebuild resilient reef systems across the country by expanding the Villingili reef restoration site by 500 sqm and providing coral reef restoration training to other local island communities.
The Big Build: A history-making coral reef restoration event
In a recent historic four-day event, The Big Build, we restored a reef with 30,000 corals across 2,500 square meters with 100 people, bringing us closer to our ambition of restoring 1 million corals by the end of 2023.
