Bontosua Community Restoration Team, Indonesia
For 20 years, working alongside local communities, we have been restoring degraded coral reefs in central Indonesia. In 2024, a team from the local Bontosuan community, trained by Mars, initiated their own indepednent restoration project, demonstrating their dedication to securing a future for their reefs.
Bontosua Community Restoration Team
Since the initiation of the restoration program, the local Bontosuan community has been actively involved - producing and preparing Reef Stars, tying on corals and being guardians of their restored reef areas.
In 2022, three local members of the local community completed their Open Water dive course as part of their training, and formed the Bontosua Community Restoration Team (BCRT).
To further develop the BCRT, across 2023, the three members received their MARRS competency training, supported and led restoration builds to equip them with the restoration knowledge and skillset to restore their own local reefs
